Longboards

I started shaping surfboards in 1966 by re-shaping 9'0 ~ 10'0 longboards which were still in full bloom at that time. In the beginning, I'd cut into a discarded longboard’s rails with a Skil-Saw on edge, put it outside in the sun to heat up, and then just pop the fiberglass off the top and bottom, giving me a perfect "preshape" to learn how to shape longboards off of.

Even though I’m known for my large wave Gun models, and Hybrid and Vintage board designs, I have never stopped riding and shaping longboards since those early days in Playa Del Rey, California. It's a part of my surfing heritage and shaping life I love to do. Since I started building boards through the longboard era, I can shape many styles of longboards: however, I’ve found keeping the model selection smaller as 3 contemporary type models for simplicity sake, benefited the customer from getting confused for too much information.

However, I also enjoy doing custom orders based off of the customer's needs. So, that means shaping the traditional longboard's mid 9'0" lengths from 1960~ 1964 which were based on flat rocker, fuller 50-50 rails, and glassed heavy at 22~25 lbs for a 9'6, with a "D" shaped glass on fin. Then comes the mid 9'6 nose rider type models from the 1965 "removable fin" era, of performance lighter weight longboards that people seem to want more of presently. Finally, there was those first 8'4 ~ 9'0 shorter midsized Vee-bottom type longboards from late 1967-1968 that were really the first maneuverable surfboards not intended for nose riding, but carving and turning.

Regardless which model you choose, I look forward to helping you realize your custom longboard needs!
